Emergency Financial Assistance

Americans facing financial emergencies in Zimbabwe can reach out to the American Citizen Services Unit at the U.S. Embassy in Harare by calling (+263)-867-701-100, or contact the State Department’s Office of Overseas Citizens Services at (+1) 202-501-4444.
Victims of Crime
When a U.S. citizen becomes a victim of a crime overseas, they might suffer physical, emotional, or financial harm. This can be especially challenging as they may be in unfamiliar territory, unfamiliar with the local language or customs.
Death of a U.S. Citizen
If a U.S. citizen passes away abroad, the Bureau of Consular Affairs assists their family and friends. They work to locate and inform the next-of-kin about the death and provide guidance on arrangements for local burial or repatriation of remains to the United States. The handling of remains is governed by both U.S. and local laws, along with customs requirements, and the facilities available in the foreign country, which may differ significantly from those in the United States.
Arrest of a U.S. Citizen
Ensuring the well-being of U.S. citizens detained abroad is a top priority for the Department of State and U.S. embassies and consulates worldwide. The Department of State is committed to securing fair and humane treatment for U.S. citizens held overseas. They offer assistance to incarcerated citizens and their families to the extent allowed by international, domestic, and foreign laws.
